The need to apply sustainable development principles in the healthcare sector is becoming increasingly urgent. Hospitals, as facilities with some of the highest energy and water consumption due to its 24-hours operations, are now required to adopt both efficiency measures and green building principles. This is not only about operational efficiency but also about ensuring patient comfort and safety as the primary users of healthcare services.
Healthcare Innovation Leaders Asia 2025, held on August 27-28 in Jakarta under the theme “Healthcare Indonesia: Innovation Without Borders”, was designed to address these challenges. The event brought together healthcare practitioners, innovators, and policymakers to discuss cutting-edge technologies, digital transformation, and strategies shaping the future of healthcare in Asia.
Among the speakers was Ir. Wiza Hidayat, CEO of Ecobuild Green Building Consultant, who joined a panel with leading experts including Dr. Budiman Kharma, PhD, SpPK (Project Development Director, Brawijaya Healthcare Group), Dr. Bagus Triatmojo (CEO, Siaga Medika Group), and moderator Dr. Roswin Rosnim (Director, PT Setia Mitra Lestari). The session focused on “Sustainable Strategies to Improve Healthcare Infrastructure & Operations.”
Wiza emphasized that in the context of Green Hospitals, patients must remain the central stakeholders in design. “Key aspects include indoor air quality, the presence of healing gardens, the use of hygienic materials, proper temperature and lighting control, efficient waiting times, and optimal space circulation,” he explained.
He further highlighted that cross-sector and interdisciplinary collaboration is essential to create hospitals that are not only efficient and environmentally friendly but also supportive of a better healing experience for patients. Such initiatives, he added, are part of Indonesia’s broader commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060.
Ecobuild Green Building Consultant has contributed to sustainable healthcare development through projects such as Hermina IKN Hospital, Prof. Dr. dr. Mahar Mardjono National Brain Center Hospital Jakarta (service and education buildings), and Altius Hospital. These projects demonstrate the company’s strong commitment to integrating sustainability in healthcare infrastructure.
Through its participation in Healthcare Innovation Leaders Asia 2025, Ecobuild hopes to inspire more hospitals and healthcare institutions to embed sustainability strategies in every aspect of their planning and operations.
